The Time Traveller’s Cap: A Limited-Edition Drop with a Doctor Who Legacy

A Time Traveller’s Cloth: Vintage W.Bill Tweed Meets Limited-Edition Caps (Coming Soon)

At Gamble & Gunn, we’ve always believed a great cap starts with a great story — and our latest find might just be our most adventurous yet. Tucked away in a private archive, we uncovered a vintage bolt of W.Bill tweed with serious character — and just a hint of Doctor Who magic.

Now, we’re cutting it by hand and crafting a strictly limited run of caps that pay tribute to one of Britain’s most iconic sci-fi style moments.

A Fabric With a Past

At Gamble & Gunn, we have a deep respect for cloth with history — especially when that history comes with a dash of time travel.

Commissioned during the era of the Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy), this cloth was designed to reflect the rich, eccentric aesthetic of Britain’s most iconic time traveller — and it carries all the charm, colour, and curiosity you’d expect from a sci-fi series steeped in heritage.

The Seventh Doctor’s Legacy

The fabric hails from the late ’80s, during Sylvester McCoy’s tenure as the Doctor — a portrayal known for its clever blend of eccentricity and mystery. McCoy’s Doctor introduced a darker, more strategic tone to the series, wrapped in unmistakably British style.

And in a perfect nod to continuity, McCoy briefly returned in 1996 for the Doctor Who TV movie, making one final on-screen appearance before regenerating into Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor. It’s a moment that fans remember fondly — and this cloth, with its official ties to that era, is part of that legacy.

From Gallifrey to the Workbench

The tweed itself is classic W.Bill: beautifully woven, characterful, and made in limited quantities. The check is bold yet refined — with deep burgundy, navy, and mossy tones that call to mind mysterious moors, winding libraries, and larger-than-life adventures across time and space.

Originally intended for costume design and special commissions, this fabric sat quietly in storage for decades. Now, we’re giving it a new lease of life — turning it into a small run of handcrafted British caps.

Coming Soon: The Time Traveller’s Cap

We’re currently cutting and stitching this rare Doctor Who tweed into a limited-edition run of our signature button top & Flat caps. Each one will be proudly made in Britain, lined with care, and finished with our signature detailing.

This is a one-off release — the kind of piece that belongs in the wardrobe of a collector, a Whovian, or anyone who appreciates British style with a story.

A Rare Regeneration

We only have a limited quantity of this official Doctor Who fabric. Once it’s gone, it’s gone — no regenerations, no reissues. Just a small batch of truly unique caps made from a genuine piece of television textile history.
